Summer Golf Style Guide

Playing golf in the summer can be a daunting task. Between the heat, the sun, the bugs, summer golf clothes & your own golf game, you are battling with a lot. It is hard enough to focus just on your golf game, but you have to focus on what you are wearing too?

I wanted to try and make it easier for you so here are some of my favorite summer golf clothes to help you stay cool on the course… even when it is 100+ degrees outside with my summer golf style guide. check out everything you can wear and accessorize below…

Summer Golf Style Guide

WHAT TO WEAR

During the summer, the key is to stay cool even when it is so hot. I live in the south so it can get very hot & humid during the summer months. You have to battle the muggy heat and the scorching sun all while trying to concentrate on the 18th green with a birdie putt to win the match.

We don’t need anything else to worry about so having a wardrobe thats ready to take on the heat is most important. Since I have super fair skin and I have battled with skin cancer in the past, I am looking for coverage & breathability.

Even though sleeveless shirts are probably more “comfortable” to wear during the summer and they help avoid the t-shirt tan lines, I always opt for a shirt with sleeves. I don’t like to have to worry about my shoulders burning and when I am carrying my golf bag, having sleeves seems to be more comfortable when sweating a lot.

I try to find shirts that have a moisture-wicking, fast-drying and anti-microbial fabric. Shirts that are mostly polyester seem to be best during the summer months. I try to avoid most cottons June-August because the fabrics are thicker, absorb the moisture & retain the heat.

My favorite shirts are the Adidas Climacool Polo‘s & the Nike Dry Polos. The Nike Dry Polo is one of my favorites right now. It has the perfect amount of stretch, is moisture-wicking and it keeps you dry & cool throughout the whole round.

Now the bottoms can get quite tricky. There are so many different options now that it is exciting. I love wearing skirts/skorts when playing golf. I find that they are most comfortable. But I do not discriminate against shorts & pants. My dermatologist has actually suggested that I wear pants during the summer but I just can’t get away from my ruffled skirts.

I have been obsessed with Lululemon’s skirts for many years now. I found the pace setter skirt (which they no longer make) a couple years ago and fell in love so I went out and bought every color in my size that I could find. I think I have 10 different colors now. They are my go-to on the extra hot days.

Lululemon has now released their Circuit Breaker Skirt and it is very similar to the pace setter. It has a zip pocket in the back, two small pockets in the waistband & silicon grips on the inside of the spandex to keep everyone in its place. I haven’t tried this EXACT skirt yet but the staff at Lululemon have insured me that they are basically the same skirt, just without an extra ruffle on the bum.

Both Nike & Adidas have great options for shorts, skorts & pants that breathe comfortably for the summer. I have many options from both companies and they are all comfortable. The Nike Washed Dry Shorty is my favorite short & Adidas Rangewear Skort is so comfy.

There are so many options for women’s golf clothes now so you really just need to try out and see what fits you best. The different companies make their clothes different ways so you need to try on everything and figure out what fits your body type the best when searching for summer golf clothes.

COOL ACCESSORIES

The accessories may be just as important as the clothes on some days. I find that the socks I wear and the hat/visor I am wearing can be just as vital to my golf game as the shorts I picked out.

I have been on a crazy rollercoaster ride with hats in my golf career. I started off wearing a traditional baseball cap, then opted to go hatless, went to a visor, back to baseball cap, then to a bucket hat, then to wide brim visor and now back to a bucket hat. I have literally tried them all. I am sticking with the bucket hat from now because it is what protects the best. The sun is so strong during the summer that it is just best for my skin to avoid it as much as possible.

I have switched to this Titleist Aussie bucket hat and it has been great! It breathes well, fits comfortably and has a chin strap for extra support on those windy days.

This is another instance where you really want to find what works best for you. Adidas, Under Armour & Nike all have bucket hat options, the Titleist one just worked best for me.

Now onto socks. This is all about comfort. When I was at the PGA show earlier this year, I tried on FootJoy’s new sock line – TechSof Tour Sport and it was awesome. There is so much support, comfort, breathability and the sock didn’t fall down. The technology going into their socks is amazing. Again, there are so many different options, you just have to try them out but I would definitely start with FootJoy.
