Grand Teton National Park Travel Guide

Grand Teton National Parks is probably my favorite national park and one of my favorite places to visit. I think it is also overlooked a lot as well. Many visitors rush their way through the Tetons in order to make their way to Yellowstone National Park. Maybe it’s because Yellowstone is bigger. Regardless, Grand Teton National Park is breathtaking. It is magnificent. This park has endless beauty and has so much to do.

I have visited this park twice now and every time I go back is like a new adventure. the first time was a long road trip with family and we stopped in Jackson, WY for 3 days and spent some time in the Tetons. the second time was a trip with my best friend and we visited the Tetons and Yellowstone. both trips were amazing and I would do it all over again. the best advice I can give you when planning a trip to grand teton national park is to make sure you have planned enough days to spend there. on my first trip, we spent 3 days and the second trip we spent 2 days and it never seems like enough. there are so many different things to do and you are going to want to try and get it all in!

So here is just a little bit of a taste of Grand Teton National Park and what you can do while you are there!

NEED TO KNOW

AIRPORT: There is an airport Jackson, Wyoming which would be the closest – Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) – but is a small  and not the cheapest. You can also fly into Idaho Falls Airport or Salt Lake City and drive in.

LODGING: In the park there are several different lodges including Jackson Lake Lodge, Signal Mountain Lodge, Jenny Lake Lodge and Colter Bay Cabins. There are also campgrounds throughout the park. If you want to stay outside the park, the closest place to stay is Jackson, WY. I stay Jackson whenever I am visiting GTNP.

FOOD: There are limited food options inside the national park but there are some dining options at a couple of the lodges. Jackson Lake, Signal Lodge and Jenny Lodge are some options but you can also dine in Jackson, WY which is just outside the souther park entrance.

TIMES: Grand Teton National Park is open year round but many services inside the park are only open from May to October. You should also check for road closings depending on where you are going.

ENTRANCE FEES: There is an entry fee to enter the park. It is $35 per vehicle and is valid for 7 days. Or you can purchase a full park pass for $80 and have access to every national park for a full year.

GAS STATIONS: Yes, there are gas stations in the park but you can expect prices to be higher inside the park. If you are staying in Jackson, I would suggest filling up there.

WILDLIFE: There is a lot of wildlife in the park area. Moose, elk, deer, mountain goats, bison and bears live within Grand Teton National Park. For most wildlife, it is best to stay at least 25 yards away. Unless it is a bear… then you should be at least 100 yards away. Let the animals stay wild.
