BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS

In the Midst of Winter: A Novel // “New York Times and worldwide bestselling “dazzling storyteller” (Associated Press) Isabel Allende returns with a sweeping novel about three very different people who are brought together in a mesmerizing story that journeys from present-day Brooklyn to Guatemala in the recent past to 1970s Chile and Brazil.” – Amazon

I saw this book when I was browsing around on Amazon the other day and something about the cover & title peaked my interest. Something about the flowers and it basically almost being winter made me feel inspired. It was also on Amazons top books for the month so I thought… why not?!

It all starts with a minor traffic accident—which becomes the catalyst for an unexpected and moving love story between two people who thought they were deep into the winter of their lives. 60-year-old Richard hits the car of Evelyn Ortega—a young, undocumented immigrant from Guatemala—in the middle of a snowstorm in Brooklyn. What at first seems like a small inconveniences takes a turn when Evelyn turns to Richard for help.

Only Time Will Tell: A Novel // “The first novel in the Clifton Chronicles, an ambitious new series that tells the story of a family across generations and oceans, from heartbreak to triumph.”

The epic tale of Harry Clifton’s life begins in 1920, with the words “I was told that my father was killed in the war.” Harry never knew his father and expects to continue on at the shipyard, where he works on the dock, until a remarkable gift wins him a scholarship to an exclusive boys’ school, and his life will never be the same again. As Harry enters into adulthood, he finally learns how his father really died, but the awful truth only leads him to question: Was he even his father?

I came across this book on Instagram Stories when another influencer I follow said she just finished it and loved it. I thought… why not?! (It seems like I keep saying this 🙂 ) With more research on the novel (noted above) and thought it would be a good read. It is the first book of a series and I am excited to see what happens.
